The Glaucoma Department of Tianjin Eye Hospital
The glaucoma department of Tianjin Eye Hospital was established in 1960's, the famous professor Wang Sihui is one of the major founders of this subspecialty. For half a century, a series of clinical and scientific research have been carried out, and cultivated a professional echelon personnel, including the domestic well-known ophthalmologists, and outstanding young doctoral and master fellows, the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma have met with international standards. Professor Jimmy S.M. Lai from Hongkong University was employeed as honorary director of the department on June 25 , 2015 , as the guidance for the advancement of glaucoma basic science research.
The glaucoma department is equipped with a series of advanced medical equipments, such as tonometry, Octopus and Humphery perimeter, OCT (including anter segment OCT), UBM, Fundus photography, A/B scan and laser therapeutic machines. In glaucoma department, various types of filtering surgery, laser therapy, combined phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation, as well as combined cataract and glaucoma surgery are performed. Trabeculectomy combined with trabeculotomy for congenital glaucoma have been carried out , diode laser cycloablation in the treatment of absolute glaucoma and residual glaucoma earlier in domestic, as well as achieved abundant clinical experience in the combined surgery in the treatment of refractory glaucoma such as malignant glaucoma, secondary glaucoma due to the subluxation of lens, glaucoma combined with cataract. Besides this, the most up-to-date micro-invasive surgeries have been successfully introduced, such as ExPress Mini Shunt implantation, endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation, intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drug combined with filtering surgery treatment in neovascular glaucoma therapy, which were proven to be effective. Approximately 70,000 outpatient visits from all over the country and 3000 surgeries are accomplished in the glaucoma department every year. (2016.7)
